is the co-director and writer for AFTER OIL. Born and raised in Upstate New York, Shailyn is a novelist, screenwriter, and film major at the School of Visual Arts. If you can't find her perusing used bookstores, or buying up games in a Steam sale that she likely won't ever play, you might be able to find her doing something productive, like revising a feature, producing content for her YouTube channel, or writing blog posts for her website, shailyncotten.com. is the producer for AFTER OIL and a recent graduate from the School of Visual Arts' Film and Video directing program. She is the recipient of the Outstanding Documentary Award from the Dusty Film Festival, for her incredible documentary Tomasa, detailing the lives of the workers on a matriarchal farm collective in Argentina. Alejandro Cortés is a Mexican director and cinematographer based in New York City. He is currently a senior student of the BFA Film & Video program at the School of Visual Arts. Since 2013, Alejandro has been involved in 71 productions, and Director of Photography in 18 occasions. His experience in narrative led him to to work as 1st Assistant Cameraman for Emmy award-winner Greg Harriott in the independent feature film “The Passing Season”. He was also 1st Assistant Cameraman in “Boyz”, a TV pilot produced and co-directed by multiple Emmy and DGA award-winner Christopher Goutman. He has additionally been a part of more commercial work for companies such as Gap, Xbox One, and The Broadway Fashion Report. Ready to take his work to the next level, this summer Alejandro will be Director of Photography in the feature film “And the Boys Go”, produced by Matt Hoff and Daniel Ennab. is the First Assistant Camera for AFTER OIL. A Colombian filmmaker, some of Nicolas' professional inspirations include Terrance Malik, Michael Moore, Emmanuel Lubezki and David Fincher.
Paula Cury Melo
is the Second Assistant Camera for AFTER OIL. Paula is a young screenwriter, photographer and filmmaker born and raised in Dominican Republic. On August 2014, she moved on her own to New York City in order to pursue her filmmaking studies at the School of Visual Arts. Driven by a key interest in directing and cinematography, Paula is constantly working on film productions and sets, including as 2nd Assistant Camera in a TV pilot episode produced by multiple Emmy and DGA award-winner Christopher Goutman, and as Production Designer in indie feature film The Passing Season by Gabriel Long. Her awards include 1st Place in Black and White Photography for Dominican Republic’s annual FUNGLODE competition in 2013, and the Silas H. Rhode Scholarship granted by the School of Visual Arts.
is the Script Supervisor for AFTER OIL. She is specializing in post sound production. Born in California and raised in Indianapolis, she now lives in New York. She studies film at the School of Visual Arts.
